2023 Annual Firefighters Car Fest on Sunday

City of Arvada now accepting applications for Resident Rebate Program

This week the City of Arvada announced they are now accepting applications for the Resident Rebate Program. The program aims at providing rebates to members of the Arvada community who are in financial need and meet eligibility requirements. If approved, residents can receive up to $85 plus an additional $50 for each dependent.

At least 1 victim shot in home invasion

Just after 7:50PM, the Wheat Ridge Police Department notified the public that they are responding to a shooting at a residence, in the 4600 block of Otis Street. Police advised the victim reported that two men “burst” into the residence. Upon entering the residence, at least one suspect shot the victim.

The City of Arvada advised that the Splash Pad and restrooms at Ralston Central Park will be closed from 8AM-5PM on Monday (Aug. 8th) and Wednesday (Aug. 10). The closure is to allow for crews to work on construction related to the Ralson Road Project.

Today starts RTD's month long Zero Fare for Better Air initiative

Today, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) launched Zero Fare for Better Air – a collaborative, statewide initiative designed to reduce ground-level ozone by increasing use of transit. Through a partnership with the Colorado Energy Office, made possible by Colorado Senate Bill 22-180, RTD will offer zero fares during the month of August.

DUI driver who crashed into Arvada home held on $25K bond following today’s hearing

Just after 11:15PM on Sunday (7/24/2022), Arvada Police and Fire responded to 5130 Independence Street in reference to a vehicle which had crashed into the residence at that location. The residence was occupied at the time of the crash but first responders reported that there were no physical injuries inside the home. At the time of the crash, the alleged driver, later identified by police as Kyle Duran, was driving a Ford truck east on 51st Avenue.

Inmate turns himself in after "walking-away" from the jail

Just after 1:40PM this afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) notified the public that an inmate had “walked-away” from the jail. The notification included the published picture of the suspect, along with information that the suspect was in custody for multiple traffic related failure to appear warrants and theft. JCSO Deputies are currently searching for the suspect.

If you are on social media, or listen to local media outlets, you have undoubtedly witnessed heated debates and varying opinions about rising concerns of homelessness in Arvada. These include questioning what the City of Arvada is doing to address these issues. In a recent online debate about crime in Arvada and homelessness in Olde Town, one Facebook user went so far as to accuse a member of city council of coordinating with a local church to transport individuals experiencing homelessness from other jurisdictions to Arvada for services.

Suspect in stolen vehicle that rammed police and injured community members to be released on PR bond

Bennett to be released from jail on a PR bond. At approximately 8:30AM today (7/19/2022), Officers with the Arvada Police Department (APD) attempted to contact two individuals inside a vehicle, located in the 6900 block of Sheridan Blvd. Information released by APD indicates that at the time, the vehicle was stopped and off. The driver, later identified by jail records as 18-year-old Azriel Bennett, then started the vehicle and drove away, striking the APD patrol vehicle. Bennett then fled in the vehicle southbound on Sheridan Blvd. Police advised patrol officers were not pursing Bennett who then crashed into a Ford SUV near 65th and Sheridan. At the time of the crash, the Ford SUV was occupied by a female driver and the driver’s unknown aged daughter. The impact to the Ford SUV resulted in the Ford SUV rolling over and the suspect vehicle being driven by Bennett to be immobilized.

Law enforcement investigating a fatal single vehicle rollover crash along Wadsworth offramp

At approximately 10:17PM, staff with JeffCom 911 (Jefferson County Communications Center Authority) received a call-in reference to a motor vehicle crash in the area of westbound I70 and Wadsworth Blvd. Members of law enforcement and multiple fire engines and medics with Arvada Fire were dispatched to the area. First responders were unable to locate any crash in the area and began coordinating different routes to search for the possible crash as dispatchers advised at least three community members had called in.

Arvada Fire responding to a hazmat crash involving a jackknifed semi, I-70WB

Members of Arvada Fire are currently on scene of a jackknifed semi-tractor on I70 west bound at Wadsworth Blvd. At least two lanes of westbound traffic are currently closed as crews work on scene. As of 4:09PM, the incident was updated to include a hazmat response because of the material being transported by the semi.

3:32PM: Just after 3:20PM this afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and Jeffcom 911 advised they were responding to a wildland fire in the area of HWY 285 and Morrison. JCSO Deputies are currently conducting door-to-door evacuations of homes in the area. Jeffcom has reported that they do have fire crews on scene and the 9-1-1 center is being inundated with calls. Residents are advised to stand by for any lookout alerts being sent.

City seeks feedback in future plans for Olde Town Arvada

In March 2021, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) which established a fund of $1.9 trillion to assist in relieving the financial hardships contributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the $1.9 trillion, $350 billon was earmarked for state and local governments. On October 25, 2021, the City of Arvada’s Finance Director Bryan Archer presented information to City Council in reference to ARPA funds, which included advising the City of Arvada had been allocated $11,075,909.

38th Avenue closed as police investigate serious hit & run crash

The Wheat Ridge Police Department has closed 38th Avenue between Independence Street and Johnson Street in reference to a hit and run crash. Police advised that there was a crash between a motorcycle and vehicle in the area. The occupant of the motorcycle has serious injuries, and the vehicle fled the scene.

Just before 3:00AM yesterday, the below pictured female was caught on a Ring camera, attempting to steal a bicycle. The female was equipped with a large pair of bolt cutters which she had hidden in clothing. The incident took place in the area of 62nd Place and Yukon Court. Suspect arrested after attack at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office

This morning an adult male began an attack at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), located at 200 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden. The attack began as the suspect rammed a JCSO vehicle. The vehicle was a marked JCSO emergency vehicle and pictures of the scene indicate the suspect was driving a pickup. After ramming the sheriff’s office vehicle, the suspect then began breaking into two separate entrances, using a silver bar to break through the glass.
